Big Boo has needed a little encouragement to get outside in this snowy weather, not enjoying sledging and preferring the idea of a cosy carpet underfoot. But this volcano activity really got him interested, so much that he wants to go out again tomorrow to repeat it. We have made exploding volcanoes before using play dough and sand, but snow is perfect to use, and cleans up really easily too!
I got the idea from this post, where you can find exact amounts of ingredients. I just threw some vinegar, a good squirt of washing up liquid and red food colouring in a jar to bury in the top of the volcano. Big Boo was ready with a big tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda to pour in the top of the volcano once the dinosaurs were in place. Then we just watched as the lava erupted everywhere!
Cue a dinosaur rescue mission, followed by some bloody dinosaur battles in the lava. Great fun.
