Tissue Paper Bowl Tutorial

image

This pretty bowl is easy to make (even for really little ones) and looks really effective especially when displayed against the sunlight (sadly we have been lacking in sun here recently…). We made this one for my mother’s birthday and Big Boo helped out with lots of it, until things got too sticky! He does like to be clean (this definitely is a gene from his dad, not me!) and this project does require a little glue.

Here’s what you need:

Tissue paper in different colours

Balloon

PVA (school) glue

A beer mug or wide vase

That’s it!

First you need to cut the tissue paper into tiny pieces, I found it easier to cut it into thin strips for Big Boo first. We aimed for little triangles but we weren’t perfect.

Blow up the balloon to your desired size (mine was about a third blown up). Mix your glue with water to make it more runny (I used roughly half glue half water) then paint the bottom half of the balloon, drawing a fairly straight line where you would like bowl rim to be.

Now the fun bit… take your balloon and roll it in the tissue pieces.  We found this much easier and quicker than sprinkling, and less messy.

Cover again with glue and repeat until you have reached the thickness you require (this one has about five layers).

Done, a pretty and simple tissue paper bowl.
